Chapter 9: Cartoon Hoofed animals

Cartoon hoofed animals cover a variety of different species including horses, pigs, goats, cows, sheep, and even donkeys. They rarely have their own shows or really large parts in cartoons, but they are undeniably popular, from Porky Pig to the Donkey from Shrek. Here are some cartoon hoofed animals I've seen:

43. Disney's The Three Little Pigs

Hoofed animals have a variety of personalities based on the species they are. Cartoon pigs typically act patient, cool-headed and often highly intelligent. Cartoon sheep tend to act innocent and easily led, while cartoon goats act grumpy and eat everything in sight. There are seldom cartoon cows, but when there are, they act all goofy, while cartoon horses are used as transportation while often retaining some anthropomorphic personality of their own. As far as Donkeys, there have been two silly donkeys of a barnyard, but they weren't particularly well known until Donkey from Shrek appeared. Anyway, let's get things off on the right hoof with about 20 cartoon facts:

1. There have been numerous examples of cartoon sheep over time, including at least three Mighty Mouse cartoons (Wolf Wolf, The Black Sheep, and The Reformed Wolf), one Wallace and Gromit animation (A Close Shave), at least 2 Looney Tunes Cartoons (Where Wile E. Coyote tries to outwit a sheepdog.) and two U.B. Iwerks cartoons (Little Boy Blue and Mary's little lamb).

2. Taurus Bulbus appeared in Darkwing Duck as his first nemesis who was thought destroyed in an explosion at the end of the two part opening episode. However, he appeared later as a terminator-like cyborg.

3. Though for a long time she was considered the most popular of The Muppets, Ms. Piggy began in the Muppet Show as a very minor character.

4. Kaboobie from Shazaan was a winged camel who served as Chuck and Nancy's transport, but also the main comic relief of the series.

5. Bo and Lanolin are sheep from Garfield and Friend's U.S. Acres with polarized personalities. Bo is usually cool and confident, while Lanolin is edgy and naggy.

6. El Kabong was created as a zorro-like alter ego for Quickdraw Mcgraw. Each of them recieved their own animated segments, and they both appeared in Yogi's Treasure Hunt.

7. There is a clip on Youtube of the only time Porky Pig ever swore after saying "son of a gun" at an unexpected time.

8. Walt Disney created Clairabell Cow and Horace Horse as part of his original cast of a barnyard when he made Mickey Mouse. Horace Horse has yet to appear in a Disney animated movie, but Clairabell Cow played a part in The Three Musketeers.

9. Chuckles the Silly Piggy from Dave the Barbarian has a brother named Buckles the silly Piggy, and a nephew named Knuckles the silly piggy. It would all be quite clever if the piggy wasn't a nemesis named "The Dark Lord Chuckles the Silly Piggy". It's obnoxious, really.

10. Marty the Zebra from Madagascar was indicated to have one or two more white stripes than black stripes. Ironic, since he was voiced by Chris Rock.

11. There are many cartoons with a racehorse being triggered by some kind of music to run at an extroardinary speed for a short time. This was based on an old black-and-white Marx Brothers movie where a horse went wild at the sound of someone's voice.

12. For some unknown reason, there were zoo-animal themed movies made in the same year, The Wild and Madagascar. Each of which featured a giraffe with secuity issues.

13. Swiftwind is a pegasus-unicorn mix from She-Ra who is essentially the She-Ra version of Cringer from He-Man. Swiftwind was also one in a series of "Talking Vehicles" which included Ghostbuggy and Thirty-thirty.

14. Thirty-thirty was essentially an animated Dirty Harry who used ballistics with a portable cannon which he referred to as "Sara Jane".

15. With the possible exception of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Bambi was the first and only speaking character of a Disney Movie who had hoofs.

16. Wilbur the Pig from Charlotte's Web, initially couldn't talk, but when he found out he could, he burst into a surprisingly thought-out song.

17. Runt of the Litter from Disney's Chicken Little, was not only the fattest pig in American animated history, but also the most high-strung with his tendency to overreact to almost any situation.

18. Molly Moo Cow appeared in three early cartoons, one where she met Robinson Crusoe, one where she met Rip Van Winkle, and one where she saves a flock of butterflies from a collector.

19. Of all the ways to form comic relief, Pumbaa from The Lion King was the first character in Disney animated history to use body gas as a way to make people laugh (Thank god).

20. An early Silly Symphony cartoon named The Three Little Pigs, made during war times, won an Academy Award, as well as spreading worldwide a popular song called "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?"

Well, that's all for now. I hope you enjoyed it. Tune into my next chapter for more lesser-known cartoon facts.

Wow ... You really put some thought into this, didn't you? I wonder if you have any idea who decided that cartoon animals should talk? Funny how most of our beloved characters talk and we love it, but Tom and Jerry work best as silent characters.
