Small fries: Another animated movie idea

This is two really small heroes on one really big adventure!

So far, as far as animated features that have made the big screen, I've seen the re-telling of a number of different fairy tales, or at least making fun of a few. Among these are Snow White and Cinderella in Happily N' Ever After, and Happily N' Ever After 2. Then, there were all of those stories made fun of in the Shrek series. Then there was The Emperor's New Groove, whith, although it had a clearly different plot, was an obvious reference to The Emperor's new clothes. Then, of course, there was the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog. The latest story re-telling I saw was Disney's Tangled, and it got me to thinking; maybe Tom Thumb and Thumbelina should have their own chance at a computer-animated adventure. After all, crowds have been entertained by movies like A Bug's Life, or Honey I Shrunk the kids, and Tinkerbell, that obnoxious little pixie from Peter Pan, now has a series of adventures made about her.

Anyway, like many of my ideas that I've posted on Hubpages, this story is quite underdeveloped, but here it is: The story begins with a narration from Tom Thumb, who, as his name suggests, is roughly two inches tall. This causes all sorts of problems, such as his parents keeping track of him and taking care of him when he was a baby and a toddler. He is currently school-aged, and an obvious social outcast. He meets up with another kid in his class, Thumbelina, who relates a similar story through flashbacks. Tom Thumb thinks he'll never really be worth anything because he's so small, but Thumbelina is a little more optimistic. One day, after their small size causes a disaster at their school, Thumbelina asks about why ARE they so tiny anyway? After finding that nobody really knows why, Tom sets off to find out (Quite similarly to Pinocchio's journey), with Thumbelina right next to him, just as interested.

Their journey leads them first to a circus, where a fast-talking ringmaster makes them each a part of his show. Escaping from the circus, the kids get separated from one another, as Thumbelina comes to a family of field mice and Tom Thumb meets up with some small birds. The mice think that Thumbelina is a fairy of some kind, while the birds think Tom Thumb is either a Leprechaun or an Elf. The fact that neither of them have any magical powers, though, is a strong indication that they're really just tiny humans. Afraid for one another, they each go out looking for one another, but instead find a wisened old traveling raccoon named Cutter, who relates to them a story about an elder traveller who gave childless couples children of their own, but these children were only animals, such as mice or birds, which had been given a special potion that made them like humans.

Tom Thumb and Thumbelina go off in search of more of that potion, hoping that another dose would make them normal sized. To find the traveller, Tom and Thumbelina travel to the ocean, where they find the traveller taken captive by pirates who also want his special potion. Tom Thumb and Thumbelina successfully scare the pirates off and enable the traveller to escape by hiding and pretending to be evil spirits, but in the process, the potion accidentally falls into the water, and turns some fish into merfolk. The traveller tells Tom and Thumbelina that, although their small size can be a major pain, it also has advantages, and Tom Thumb and Thumbelina go home, satisfied to know that their size isn't just a problem, and satisfied to know where they came from.

Well, that's my idea. At least until I can think of something better.
