The New Adventures of Betty Boop

This is certainly not my best work, but I think it'll be more than sufficient for another one of my 100 cartoon show ideas in addition to The D-Man. This show idea involves one of the most famous old fashioned cartoon characters in animated history. As some of you who have looked into cartoons may know, Betty Boop DID have some full-length fully-colored animated features after the 1930's, but, unlike her cartoon brother (They weren't related in any of the cartoons, it's just that they were both made by Max Fleischer) Popeye, she never had her own cartoon show.

In this version of Betty Boop, all five of her friends from the early cartoon series are featured, including her cute little dog, Pudgy, her anthropomorphic dog friend, Bimbo, her clown friend, Coco, her boyfriend, Freddy (Who makes less appearances than the others), and her elderly inventor friend, Grampy. The synopsis is that Betty Boop is a young woman who dreams of being a star, but never gets a big enough break. She, Bimbo, and Coco go to work together at various jobs, but they don't live in the same place. Betty lives in the attic of an old inventor guy named "Grampy" who may or may not be related to her. Betty's friend Coco the clown often tries to help out, but usually just does jokes and slapstick comedy, often resulting in making matters worse.

Bimbo often tries to win Betty's affections through shows of strength, and is convinced that if he were only really smart or really rich, he'd be Betty's boyfriend instead of Freddy. Freddy is Betty's boyfriend, though he's usually not actually seen in the show. Freddy is strong and relatively hansom (He doesn't exactly look like Prince Charming), but works blue collar jobs just like Betty does. The real problem surrounding Freddy is that he's too desperate to be the perfect boyfriend, and he has a real problem acting like an average guy. He's mostly useful if the situation calls for some extra muscle. Pudgy is Betty's cute little dog, and he's always trying to help Betty with various tasks (Such as fetching the mail or scaring away cats). He often wishes he could be bigger, stronger and/or more popular.

Grampy is your average goofy inventor, that is, except that most goofy inventors these days aren't as openly kind and thoughtful as Grampy is. Grampy often recharges his thinking process by putting on a "Thinking Cap", and a lot of his inventions are used to help Betty and her friends out, though Coco often comically misuses them. Little Jimmy is Grampy's grandson who lives with Grampy. Betty is often seen taking care of Little Jimmy, but it is unrevealed whether Jimmy is a relative of hers (Such as a cousin or a nephew) or whether he's just another boarder. As for Betty herself, she tends to dress in revealing or tight-fitting outfits, and has childlike aspects to her personality, such as a baby-like voice. She is sweet and thoughtful, but often far too naive. She's not really the tough type, but she's not a coward either.

Betty has a noticable charm that draws many good guys and bad guys to her, some of which become nice as a result of her charm, while others simply kidnap her for their girlfriend. Betty's talents include singing and dancing, which increases her charm or otherwise distracts the bad guys. Also, while perhaps not being as smart as Grampy, Betty can figure a lot of things out on her own and solve certain mysteries. She's a lot smarter than her childish and often optimistic disposition would indicate.

There are a few villains to this series (Betty Boop didn't really have any recurring villains in the original cartoons though). including: Slick Oily, essentially an American version of Snidely Whiplash, he does all kinds of criminal acts, and routinely tries to force Betty to be his girlfriend. Also, Racheal Rockheart is a millionaire who usually tries to ruin everyones fun, and particularly hates Coco, though she is also jealous of Betty Boop's charm and popularity. However, most of the villains and conflicts are done on a "Flavor of the Week" pitch, and the show is basically one of those "just for fun" types.

Also, the way I'm planning it, there will also be a different old Betty Boop short in each episode.

Now that I've told you a little about this idea, here are the first ten episodes in this series:

1. Betty the firefighter: Betty Boop tries to stop Pudgy's latest attempt to become like a fire dog, and she, Bimbo, and Coco decide to try being firefighters.

2. Make 'em laugh: Betty, Coco and Bimbo enter a talent competition with a cash prize. Coco tries his hardest to make everyone laugh, but continually fails for one reason or another.

3. The odd trio: Coco and Bimbo get evicted from their apartment and briefly move in with Betty Boop, but their day-to-day habits end up annoying Betty and vice versa.

4. I want my baby back: While Betty is babysitting little Jimmy, he is kidnapped by Slick Oily, and Betty, Coco, and Bimbo have to try and get him back.

5. Betty's court date: Racheal Rockheart frames Betty for a crime, and she ends up in court. Bimbo and Coco try to act as her lawyers, but aren't very effective.

6. Grampy Hyde: Grampy creates a formula that can make a person the opposite of what they are. Betty and Coco drink it and become horribly depressed, and Bimbo drinks it and begins to hate Betty.

7. The mad scientist: Grampy has to match wits with an equally inventive mad scientist, unless Betty can save the day with her sweetening charm.

8. Betty's ship came in: Betty manages to win the lottery, but Slick Oil steals the money before it gets to Betty. Betty and her friends try to get it back, but find that, after taxes, there really wasn't much won.

9. Betty's country cousins: Betty and her friends go over to the hills to meet with some of her relatives. Unfortunately, Betty's relatives seemingly lack all common sense and some of them even want to marry Betty.

10. Betty's rock and roll: Betty follows Pudgy down into a hole in which she finds a group of cave people, who, for some reason, are really into rock music.

Well, that's all for now, check out my other blogs for more musical, amusing adventures.
